travel-photographyWondering what you would do with your life if you won the lottery? Keith and I love to think about what we would do with a huge chunk of money should we win the lottery. Aside from starting our own business or something along those lines, we would definitely travel. Probably not indefinitely, but for at least a few months. We’ve come up with some great, over the top vacations after winning the lottery.

Crystal Cruises around the world “Air Cruising”: Crystal Cruise’s new product, Air Cruising around the world is set to debut in August of 2017. Flying the world’s newest and largest private jet, the cruise will take you around the world in incredible luxury. Not only do you have a Sky Butler, every guest is treated to Michelin-star quality food, a full-service bar, a luxurious dining room and comfortable, lay flat beds. The inaugural flight in August is set to visit all six of the world’s Peninsula hotels. The flight will start in New York City and go to Chicago to Los Angeles to Tokyo to Beijing to Shanghai to Hong Kong to Manila to Bangkok and then on Paris. Along the way guests see the historical and cultural sites of each destination and are treated like royalty. The plane itself is privately owned by Crystal Cruises and has the widest flight configuration and the highest ceilings of any private jet in the world. There is an onboard chef, amazing food and the staff-to-guest ratio is the highest of any private jet experience. Interested in a more adventurous itinerary? In September there is an exotic Adventures cruise leaving from New York City followed by Lima; Easter Island; Uluru; Siem Reap; Lhasa, Kathmandu; Agra, India; Cape Town, then Abu Dhabi and New York City. All this for only $99,000 per person. I can think of worse ways to see the world.

The Year at Aman: the Aman properties around the world are some of the most amazing resorts, hands down. There is one in Utah and Jackson that we are absolutely dying to visit, but I think affording the $2000 a night rate might be out of our budget. However, if you win the lottery no worries! The trip takes place over a year and visits 31 different Aman properties, starting in Bhutan, going to Vietnam and Laos, visiting certain areas of the United States, the Caribbean, Europe, Sri Lanka, and India. All the while, living in the luxury that is Aman. The cost is around $270,000 per person and includes the accommodation, all flights in business class, private transfers, complimentary spa treatments and full board at certain properties.

Any Abercrombie and Kent journey: Abercrombie and Kent has long been known as one of the best tour operators in the world. There aren’t many countries that Abercrombie and Kent do not have an office or on ground operators. You can literally go anywhere with this tour company. Large groups, small groups, tailor-made itineraries, private jets – – nothing is off-limits with A & K. Because they are well known, they can secure unique experiences that no one else can. For example, in Potala Palace in Tibet, former residence of the Dhali Lamas, most tourists are only allowed one hour total to climb the 1200 steps up and tour the Palace.  Abercrombie and Kent? They get three hours to explore the palace. The Qinghai Yushu Horse Racing Festival is another destination unique to Abercrombie and Kent – you won’t see any other Americans or Europeans at this festival. Most people outside of Tibet don’t even know it exists.

This is a unique journey, catering to everyone from Americans to Germans to South Africans to Danes to Austrians. There are several different companies and trains to choose from and luxury service is a given. The UNESCO vacation package: This package has been designated as having the best universal culture by the UN body. Stop at 962 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 157 countries. The tour takes approximately two years to complete and stops at well-known attractions like Machu Picchu, the Great Barrier Reef, and the Taj Mahal. All the while staying at luxurious properties and being treated like kings. The cost? Around $1 million per person. Not bad for a full two years of traveling.

Luxury travel is gaining more momentum as more people realize that spending money on vacations is far more valuable than spending money on the fancy new car for their family. There’s nothing wrong with trying to save money on some trips… but we realized years ago that we would much rather “collect moments rather than things” as the saying goes. Of course, these over the top vacations are a  bit on the extreme side for 99.9% of the population. But it’s fun to pretend nonetheless!
